Another 3,611 candidates for immigration to Canada and their accompanying family members received an invitation to apply for permanent residence following the latest Express Entry draw which took place on February 22. The number of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points required in order for candidates to receive an Invitation to Apply for PR in the most recent Express Entry draw was 441. This is the lowest Express Entry score since the Express Entry system was introduced in January 2015.
This point threshold means that the once impossible invitation to apply for permanent residence, is now within reach of a greater variety of candidates. The new record low means that it is possible for a candidate educated up to Bachelor’s Degree level only, who has no Canadian work or study experience, as well as no additional points for a provincial nomination or an LMIA validated job offer, to obtain an ITA.
Even with upper intermediate language ability, equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 8, it is possible to obtain an ITA.
The significant decrease in the CRS threshold over recent months has come in the wake of changes to the Express Entry system that came into effect on 19 November 2016. Among other changes, the number of points awarded for a qualifying job offer was reduced from 600 to either 50 (NOC O, A B) or 200 points (NOC 00), depending on the position offered. As a result, of this reduction, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) correctly predicted that the CRS cut-off score would decline in each Express Entry draw.
An additional factor behind the decline is an increase in the number of ITAs being issued. This has increased from an average of 750 to 1,250 in early 2016 to over 3,500 in most recent draws. This means that there will be less candidates in the pool over 440 resulting in continue declines in the CRS score.
This news, coupled with the fact that many Canadian provinces have opened their skilled worker PNP programs and are actively recruiting applicants from the Express Entry pool, ensures that now is a great time for applicants in the UK, USA and elsewhere to submit an Express Entry application.
